Indianness

What exactly is Indianness…? The topic is discussed in almost every design meet without really any conclusion.
My generation is confused.

The seminar in IDC had many graphic artists talk about Indianness in their design; which was mere styling, a superficial display of some Indian motifs.
Is Indianness loosing its meaning? Are people lost who really know the meaning of it?

At the panel discussion except for Atthu and Prof. Dashrath Patel everyone else was either confused or over confidant, with an opinion that if you are Indian, it shows in your design. Heck! If it doesn’t show in your life, how is it going to be seen in your design?

I see large gaps everywhere. When we talk about our culture, is it only Ramayan and Mahabharat? Even if we assume that it helps to know them in understanding our culture, how many of us really know it still? And what happened in-between? When did we really start to loose our culture? And why? Because of invaders? Or is it that our cultures is so rich because of the diverse influences. And now we are loosing it to globalisation.

My generation is confused.
Something is terribly going wrong. Which can’t be stopped.
I feel helpless.

KT once told Mr. Kohei Sugiura that he found India like a huge train going in opposite direction, and he can’t turn it back. Mr. Sugiura had said You don’t need to turn it back, just give it a direction.

Yes I do have a hope.
